Was the catholic church an Enemy of scripture?
by gumby indoes the print in bold type remind you guys of another organisation you can think of??????????
was the catholic church an avowed enemy of scripture
was it really fear of false doctrine that caused the church to object to the scriptures being in the hands of the laity?

It was all a lie!
by Tower Man inwhat would you do if you woke up one morning and realized that everything you've been taught, everything you've known, everything you've thought was truth was not?
as a matter of fact, everything was a lie.
and this lie was taught to you by the people you love most in the world, your parents.

What if you were one of 'the rest of the world' and you woke up one morning to find angels killing your family because you didn't agree with their 'two witness' policy.
That's the sound and reasonable jw expectation for other people's future.

Just watched the Sunday program
by A Paduan injust watched the sunday program, finished a few minutes ago - covered the bbc panorama story - i'll admit i'm fired up.
i was very pleased to hear the sternly spoken comment at the end by channel nines jim waley, ' we are continuing to investigate the jehovahs witness and more cases of abuse' .
for the non-aussies, jim waley is universally considered as among the most credible and straight shooters of high profile journalism.

From the Sunday site
"A fortnight ago, Sunday investigated child sexual abuse within the Jehovah's Witnesses in Australia, which has prompted a flood of new allegations against the church. Our report found the church (also known as the Watchtower and Bible Tract Society) had routinely pursued a policy of obstructing police investigations into child abusers. This week on Sunday, there is damning evidence that these policies are part of a worldwide, systematic effort by the church to protect its reputation and wealth regardless of the cost to the victims."

It looks as though it was a paranoid attempt to keep authority - but then again look what happened when Russell got a copy. It's more like an error in judgement about rule making.

Stake your claim now. . .
by drahcir yarrum ini can remember some tongue in cheek discussions in car groups about certain houses and certain locations we would like to inhabit after armageddon.
you remember, sister cantholdajob would point out a big ass home and basically claim it for after the great day of jehovah's vengence.
well, i recently visited singer island, florida and want you all to know, it's going to be all mine.

There are jws in this street that from the outset showed no respect for the property of others, and were considerate only to the totally non-religious neighbours. At the time I knew nothing of jws aside from thinking of them as 'unusual' christians, so I was flabbergasted at the whole thing, escpecially the behaviour.
They smile and think nothing of having their children come into the yard, and perhaps, stir up the dog (that's the least of their deeds actually) if they feel like it - it's as if they consider others as shit, and their property is just theirs for the taking. It's suprising that no one has done something serious to them yet. Everyone else of course attempts to live peacefully - I wonder if they think that means that jehovah protects them or something.

Why is it mandatory that he finds a "convincing argument" before he's a "christian"? Is it a deal? What's he "buying and selling"? Is being a christian an investment - that requires equity? Truly the measure he gives will be the measure he recieves. Why 'nail Him down' before lifting Him up.
Importantly - tell him he's ok - now that he still knows what "christian" is. " I want kindness " - he knows that already, so why trade it. If he wants to be christian, he can do what christ did - heal, help and feed people, even tell them a story to inspire their spirits, if appropriate. Has he forgotten that most of Jesus' life was spent carpentering (making shelter for people?) So he can i mitate Jesus, not some ameri-centered fine suited false prophet - how far off track has he gone already?
If he wants to be a 'real' christian, then be one - we won't be "dying at armageddon" if he doesn't come round to our house with his "real truth".

Lets blame the belief system
by A Paduan ini've just been reading a post about elders, and how the 'belief system' is the blame.
talk about an extension of jwism.. "but the woman you gave me".. each and every jw that told lies at someone's door, actually "told lies at someone's door".
simple as that.

Sword of jah,
The people who killed Christ thought they were reading the scriptures the right way too.
And Christ asked for their forgiveness. If forgiveness was an unnecessary and inappropriate response, why did Christ ask?
